If you don’t know how to pose…

I know Everyone is capable of beautiful photos.

I get it. It feels weird to be in front of the camera. Maybe, like me, the last time you were professionally photographed was at the end of high school. And maybe, like me, that wasn’t the most “natural” experience.

If you start to feel anxiety just thinking about being photographed, you are definitely not alone. I can’t even count how many times couples have told me they are super awkward, or not photogenic, or will be blinking in every photo. And do you know how many times that’s been true?
Exactly zero.

I know you won’t be the first.

Colorado wedding photographer review in the rain

I’ve always been a pretty self-conscious person, so I felt a lot of anxiety about posing for pictures. Thankfully, you got me out of my head! It wasn’t so much about posing for pictures; it was more about capturing natural moments with some helpful direction.

If you want your wedding day to be fun...

Sara was the best vendor we had for our wedding. She reduced the stress around one of the most important days and captured it all beautifully.

relax! you’ve already done the hard part.

Across all of time and space, you found another human being you want to spend the rest of your life with.  Compared to that journey, the rest of this is easy.  More than that, it should be fun

I want you to have the freedom to express yourselves authentically, and not feel like there’s an expectation of how you’re supposed to behave or look for wedding photos. This day is all about the two of you and the love you share for each other. How you choose to express that love is totally unique, and totally up to you.

If you’re kind of awkward people…

Good News! I’m an awkward person, too.

Nerdy wedding photographer, Labyrinth family costume.

We can be a bit weird together. Here are some things to know about me:

*I go overboard for Halloween, and we do a family photo every year.

*I can quote nearly any line from Bob’s Burgers and Arrested Development.

*We live with a clumsy Australian Shepard named Frisco. We recently said goodbye to our corgi, Buster, who was the very best boy.

*I was born on a record-setting cold day in North Dakota. Which may explain why I love the snow and think summer is a bit overrated.

*It’s a near certainty that I have a Lego project in some state of construction.

*Music is always playing. I listen to everything, but my favorite band is The National.

*I’ll prove my nerd cred in person if you ask how I met my husband.

If a traditional wedding doesn’t sound like you…

Your wedding can be anything you want it to be.

* Maybe your perfect wedding means hiking to an alpine lake, just the three of us and your dog (seriously –please bring your dog).

* Maybe you want to have a Lord of the Rings inspired ceremony and then teach your guests how to contra dance.

* Or perhaps you want to combine the two with a mountaintop ceremony one day and a party with guests the next.

Regardless of whether you already have your day planned out, or still can’t even decide between an elopement vs. wedding. Whatever this next chapter of your love story looks like,
I want to help tell it.

The best thing to be is yourself.

If you don’t know where to start…

A bunch of Qs I’ll try to A

I’ve spent nearly a decade as a Colorado wedding photographer and poured countless hours into the most important topics so you don’t have to.  Here are some of the questions I hear often:

I don’t think so.  I understand the appeal of working with your spouse or close friend, but I almost always work alone.  Maybe I have trouble relinquishing control.  But after over 100 weddings as a solo Colorado wedding photographer, I feel confident in my ability to anticipate and react to the situations of the day without help.  Everything on this website was taken by me and there are only a handful of situations when I would honestly recommend adding a second photographer.

First thing’s first, make sure your photographer is legitimately set up as a business.  Do they have a real contract, liability insurance, and a business registration with their state?  If not, that’s a huge red flag and potential trap down the road.
Next, I always encourage clients to ask to view a full sample gallery and a contract.  Be clear on what the backup plan is if either you or the photographer cancel or the event is postponed (thanks, COVID).  Ask whether you get printing rights to your photos and whether your gallery will be watermarked, which will impact how/where you can print your own photos.

One of my favorite parts of being a Colorado wedding photographer is exploring our amazing state. Plus, driving gives me an opportunity to listen to an audiobook without interruption. The range already included in engagement, portrait, or two hour elopement sessions is approximately two hours from Denver metro (I include towns like Fort Collins, Boulder, Colorado Springs, and Estes Park within this range).  Five hours or more of wedding coverage includes travel to nearly all parts of Colorado (Aspen, Vail, Buena Vista, Ourey, and beyond) and most of Wyoming.  Get in touch if you’re unsure and we can discuss travel logistics.

We are truly spoiled here with the number of beautiful, publicly accessible outdoor locations for a Colorado wedding.  There are also amazing gazebos and buildings owned by various parks departments, as well as a whole slew of amazing Air BnB rentals (link), many of which will allow small gatherings with prior notice.  I’ve seen a lot of amazing, unique venues and locations and am happy to share some of my favorites with you.

Probably.  Many (if not most) outdoor areas in Colorado require some sort of permit.  Sometimes it’s a fee, sometimes you just need to give written notice that you will be there.  Frustratingly, none of these rules are in the same place.  But good news!  If you picked an experienced Colorado wedding photographer (like me), you don’t need to handle that part yourselves.

You can, and absolutely should, try to include your pets in your wedding or elopement.  I have an entire page about including your dog on your wedding day.

I know, the sticker shock is real.  I felt it too when I was getting married. The short answer is: there are a lot of equipment and administrative costs that go into running your own business, plus all the things a typical employer would normally cover that now fall on you.   That’s true and unavoidable for every single legitimate photography business out there.  The reason there’s such a wide range in what people charge are the intangible costs.  How much experience do you have, what skills do you bring to the table, and how much of your time do you pour into each client?  For me, the answer to all of those questions is… quite a lot.  It’s a lasting cliche for a reason: you get what you pay for.
