When I was a little girl, I wanted a dog SO bad. I was relentless. I did a lot of research to tell my parents why we should get one (which was a lot harder to do in the 90s). My parents finally gave in and we adopted an adorable Chow-mix fluffball from the Denver Dumb Friends League.  I named her Muffy. Why? I don’t remember. But that’s how my six-year old brain worked. We were best friends for almost 15 years, and I still remember that absolute, unparalleled joy the first time I held her in my arms.

I wanted to find a way to honor her, and all the other pups who brighten our lives, so in 2018 I decided that every time a couple brings their dog to an engagement, wedding, or elopement, I would donate $50 to the Denver Dumb Friends League. I started doing this in 2018. That year, we donated almost $500. That’s a lot of kibble! And the number only seems to be going up. I’m thrilled to be giving back to an organization that gave me so much.

So here are my top reasons to bring your dog along to a photo shoot:

1.) I want to play with your dog.
Okay, that’s a pretty selfish #1 reason, but it’s totally true! I’ve never met a dog I didn’t get along with, and I highly doubt yours will be the first.

2.) Dogs are part of our family.
And the sad reality is, we will outlive them. If you’re like me, you probably have a million cell phone photos of them sleeping in funny positions or playing with their favorite toys—but wouldn’t it be nice to have some professional photos with you to remember them by?

3.) They help us relax.
Especially if you haven’t had formal photos done since high school and you feel like you’re going to be super awkward, dogs are amazing. They keep us relaxed and bring out the best in us, naturally. It’ll help you forget about posing and let you just enjoy the moment.

4.) They’re super funny.
You can’t predict what a dog will do, and there’s a pretty good chance you’re going to get some unintentionally hilarious photos just by bringing them along.

So come on! If you are lucky enough to have an awesome pup in your life, bring him along! You’ll have fun, get some great photos, and help the Dumb Friends League in the process.
