I love backyard weddings! Jessica and Timothy rented an amazing cabin outside of Monument, Colorado. Their closest friends and family were chosen to celebrate their Black Forest wedding. They did all the decorations themselves and even had a bouncy castle for guests to enjoy… although it ended up being so hot outside that it quickly turned into a sauna 🙂
I loved all the special touches they added to their wedding. They kept the decor fairly simple, but everything they used clearly had a lot of meaning to them and who they are as a couple.
Did I mention already that it was hot? Holy cow. It was in the mid-90s and the ceremony was during the hottest part of the day. Nevertheless, once everyone saw Jessica, we all forgot how sweaty we were and just basked in their happiness.
After the ceremony, we promptly found what shade we could to take some family portraits. Look how adorable their son is! He was quite a ham for the camera and I don’t think he stopped laughing all day.
I had heard of the “shoe game” before, but this was the first time I saw someone do it at their wedding. Essentially, the bride and groom sit with their backs towards each other holding one of their own shoes and one of their partner’s. A guest asks questions like “who made the first move?” or “who is the more aggressive driver?” and they each have to hold up the shoe corresponding to their answer. The results were pretty hilarious!
Jessica told me they were going to “duel” during the cake cutting. I already knew that it was going to be fun moment of the wedding. However, I don’t think any of us expected that they’d also have to fight off a dog and a baby for their wedding cake!
Jessica and Timothy finished off the evening with the traditional toasts, bouquet/garter toss, and lawn games. It really was a joyful gathering of friends just enjoying each others’ company. As the sun set and cold beers began to flow, they enjoyed it even more!
Congratulations, Jessica and Timothy! I loved spending time with you and your adorable son – I hope he never grows out of those giggles 🙂
